Design & Metal Fabrication of Stainless Steel Salt Dispenser Hopper for Snow Removal Equipment
TechniFab of Virginia designed and manufactured this salt dispenser hopper for the Virginia Department of Transportation. The process began by using reverse engineering to gather information from a client-provided, gutted, scrapped unit. With standard measuring equipment, we determined the measurements for the sample unit and truck-rear mounting apparatus in order to develop 2-D CAD drawings. We then programmed our in-house AMADA lasers, based on our CAD drawing to ensure they would meet exact client specifications during manufacturing. Once the design phase was complete, we manufactured the hopper with sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, and TIG-welding processes.
Our salt dispenser hopper measured 50 x 22 x 13 inches deep, with a standard tolerance of +/-1/16 inches, and was made from 10GA SST steel. The estimated weight of this part was 112 pounds.
